The Future of Online Education By a Failed Cobwoy

My parents found me a job as a cowboy.
And they were happy about it.
That is how bad I was at school.

And when I’m saying a cowboy I don’t mean the cool American kind: Whit a house cool hat and a lasso.

It’s more like a dog walker but for a herd of cows.
You have a stick.
You grunt and yell all day.
And it smells like shit.

But I digress.

Years after I found art.
Got into art school.
The art academy.
Dropped out.
Start working.

All and all I didn’t study much. I didn’t recognise the authority of teachers or the institution. It didn’t align with the real world for me.

Nowadays guess what’s my favourite thing?
Studying!

I know…right?!

In the past few years, I’ve spent $40K+ on online education.
I have started with courses on freelancing and design.
Then coding, no-coding, business, marketing, strategy, product development, writing, and speaking. It’s almost a problem now.
I can’t stop myself.

I have tested all kinds of formats.
E-books, templates, audiobooks, self-paced courses, cohort-based courses, live classes, communities, coaching, and challenges.

Some I didn’t even start.
Most I didn’t finish.
Few I loved.

Here is what it didn’t work.

Most online education sells packaged information.
You don’t need more information to do the thing you want to do.

Their second selling point is…

Come for the info, stay for the community.
You don’t need new friends to do the thing you want to do.

The third is accountability.
This actually helps. Unfortunately, this is done by community members peering in most cases.
So it’s unreliable.

Here is what I found works for me to start doing a new thing.

I need to start believing that I’m half-decent and the thing.
To start believing that I need convincing evidence.
To get convincing evidence I need to try it.
To try it should take small time and effort.
To be a small effort I need to copy.
To copy I need a template.
To keep using the template I need consequences.
To have consequences I need to be in a real-world challenge.
To keep up with the challenge I will need accountability.

That’s the dream online education set up for me.

If you have to put this into a product landing page this is what it will say:

It’s how top performers learn — by doing.
Join a 30-day challenge, using a proven framework and get one-on-one coaching when it gets hard.
Start free! Choose a challenge.

I will pay for that.
I’ll probably build it if no one does.
Do you want to invest or CEO this thing?
Hit me up!

If you don’t I might take this cowboy job if it’s still on the table.
